AI and the work of learning

MIT’s letter on AI and education stayed with me because it puts the human purpose of education first. Better tools matter, but so does the person we become while learning to use them.

My own test is simple: after using AI, can I explain the idea, question the result, and do something with it on my own? Speed is helpful. Quietly outsourcing the part where understanding happens is a different bargain.

I like the emphasis on clearer course policies and stronger intellectual communities. We need room to experiment, and people around us who can tell when we are thinking carefully.
